Dinard Takes the Indian
Path |

At
Dinard on Sunday October 7, after the city was hit by the news at
the beginning of the weekend of the American strikes on terrorists
in Afghanistan, the jury of the 12th Dinard Festival of British
Films gave its top prize to The
Warrior by Asif Kepadia, an Indian odyssey of a warrior who
renounces violence.

| Split's Grand Prize to
Viena |

The
6th International Festival of New Film, which
ran September 22 - 29 in the Croatian town of Split, awarded it's
Grand Prize to Viena by Lithuanian director Audrius Stonys.
The winning film tells the
dramatic story of about a little girl with a huge loneliness who
travels to a prison to see her mother.

| Namur Honors L'Afrance |
|
|
The 16th Namur International Festival of Francophone Film ended
on October 5 with the Bayards d’Or awards ceremony. Winner for Best
Film was
Senegalese director Alain Gomis' L'Afrance
and Special Jury Prize was awarded to Immatriculation
Temporaire by Gahité Fofana.

Amongst the indie films that are making it are The
Optimists,
a documentary film by Jacky
and Lisa Comforty, awarded Best Documentary at the Hope and
Dreams 2001. Also, Franc Biffone has won for Best Cinematography
at the Metroscreen Kaleidoscope 2001 for the short film
Purgatory.
